This is a route for trained bike enthousiasts seeking to discover this forgotten mountain scenery. In the past this was the area where the local rural economy had its roots. Nowadays nothing is left but the remnants of the abandoned cottages that you will encounter along the route.
From the Marche to Abruzzo, starting out from the ancient Via Salaria Road you will ascend to an altitude of 1,303 m.
You’ll cross the valley of the river Tronto leaving it to your left and then you will climb again- as we warned you this is a route for trained bikers- and find yourself amidst oaks, ferns and the sound of silence.
Please pause to fill your water bottle in the little square of Paggese, near Acquasanta Terme, and go back to the road, and go deeper into the heart of the mountain, while underneath the valley becomes farther and farther.
The Sibillini mountain chain closes and the Castellana Valley near Teramo awaits you.
Ride along the Lake Talvacchia and the road returns in the direction of Ascoli Piceno. Now the last pitfall on the route is coming: a path that lies almost entirely in a vertical plane.
After this final obstacle the route is more or less over and the descent resumes towards Ascoli Piceno.
